UNVEILING JAZZ IMPROVISATION
Discover the core principles of jazz and
begin playing the way you’ve always wanted to.
Learn to improvise with clarity, confidence, and freedom
12-Week Live Online Course
Do you sometimes feel that...
You want to play jazz and do not know where to begin
Wherever you look, the amount of information is overwhelming
You discover great ideas in videos, yet are not sure how they apply to your playing
You improvise, yet your lines do not sound like real melodies
You come up with nice melodies, yet they do not sound like jazz
You play jazz, yet struggle to develop your ideas into coherent solos
Jazz improvisation makes sense once
you understand how the music works
In this course, you will explore the core elements of jazz improvisation and develop the essential skills needed to play jazz.
You will begin by creating basic rhythmic and melodic building blocks, combining them into original musical ideas, and developing them into your own phrases. From there, you will explore key musical concepts through carefully selected jazz standards, supported by practical exercises and applied directly in real-time improvisation. As you progress, you will integrate these concepts, gaining increasing control over jazz rhythm, harmony, melody, and style.
By the end of the course, you will have the knowledge, skills, and confidence to improvise over a wide range of jazz standards. Instead of searching for what to play, you will improvise freely in your own voice.

What Makes UV Method Different?
UV Method approaches jazz improvisation as a skill that can be developed by understanding the fundamental elements of music and applying them directly in playing. This allows original musical ideas to flow naturally and opens the way for genuine emotional expression.
The method introduces the fundamental elements of jazz in a clear and accessible way,
assuming no prior experience in improvisation.Sound, rhythm, harmony, and melody are explored together throughout the course.
The learning begins with simple choices that gradually lead to improvisation.
The method develops original musical thinking based on clear melodic principles,
rather than memorized scales and licks. Each step builds naturally on the previous one, creating a clear and structured learning path.
All concepts are taught through jazz standards, practiced through focused exercises,
and applied directly in improvisation.Exercises focus on specific musical elements and help integrate them directly into your playing.
The method introduces principles of jazz aesthetics that guide students toward
stylistically aware and creative playing. The entire process is fully guided, with continuous feedback and personal support
throughout the course.
Unveiling Jazz Improvisation is Live Online And Includes:
Twelve Live Lectures
The live lectures are at the heart of the course. This is where I present the core concepts of the course step by step through written material and musical examples. I introduce the weekly assignments, offer practice strategies, and address common pitfalls. I encourage students to ask questions throughout.
Live lectures are approximately 1 hour long.
On top of that, you will receive:
Twelve Group Coaching Sessions
The group coaching sessions are an essential part of the learning process. This is where each student has the opportunity to play through the assignments and receive personal feedback from me. I then offer further guidance and practice suggestions as needed, helping students stay on track, deepen their understanding, and come prepared for the next lecture.
Group coaching sessions are 1-2 hours long
Six One-on-One Meetings
The one-on-one meetings provide space for more individual attention and are scheduled individually at the student’s request. This is where I can offer guidance, assignments, and points of focus tailored to each student’s progress and needs.
One-on-one meetings are 15 minutes long
Over 100 Pages of Written Material and Video Clips
Each week, I provide students with written materials, sheet music, assignments, and video demonstrations that support their learning and deepen their understanding of the course material. Recordings of the live lectures are uploaded after each session, allowing students to review the content and catch up when needed.
All documents and recordings remain available after the course ends.

This helps you stay on track, make better use of your practice time, and keep refining your playing throughout the course.

About Me And My Teaching
I started playing the piano at the age of 4, studying classical music while also developing my ability to play by ear and improvise.
I discovered the magic of jazz in my teenage years and led my first professional trio at 20. I have been performing ever since.
I spent 10 years living in New York, where I studied at Mannes College, Purchase College, and NYU. During that time, I was active as a performer in both classical and jazz settings, as well as a musical director and arranger.
In 2009, I was invited to return to my hometown of Jerusalem to form and head a jazz department. Since then, I have worked closely with hundreds of students, guiding many of them through the process of understanding the music and expressing themselves freely.
About Unveiling Jazz Improvisation
During the pandemic lockdowns, I dedicated many hours to refining the teaching methods and concepts I had developed over years of experience. I organized and distilled these ideas into a clear, structured course: Unveiling Jazz Improvisation, which reflects my unique approach to teaching jazz improvisation.
The course focuses on developing essential skills in jazz improvisation and applying them in real musical situations. It combines live lectures, group coaching sessions, and one-on-one meetings in a clear and supportive learning process.
Since the first launch of the course, I have continued to refine and expand the program, adding pre-recorded lectures and developing an advanced course for graduates. I have taught the course multiple times and have been proud to see students gain freedom, confidence, and a personal voice in jazz improvisation.
“The course opened worlds of knowledge,
music and ideas, as well as the ability to
improvise jazz, of course.
I was amazed by the amount of material
Yuval teaches in a few lessons and the
amount of knowledge he brings along.
Most important, Yuval is an exquisite teacher and has a sense of humor. I enjoyed every minute and
I intend to register for the advanced course”.

Say about the course:
“An excellent course with fantastic teaching material. It enables flexible studying with the possibility to use every moment and study a-synchronously. I enjoyed Yuval's immense experience and his insights during the sessions.
Few are the teachers who have authority in a few musical genres, and it is a great advantage to receive a cross-genre perspective during the lessons”.
Shira Balter
* Shira joined and completed the Advanced Course as well
“I have played for many years and tried to learn Jazz from a few teachers, books, Youtube clips etc., without much success.
Yuval's course opened many possibilities for me,
and for the first time I reached a state where I understand harmonic progressions and can carry an improvisation.
Yuval knows how to explain complicated things in simple ways.
Moreover, he finds the right balance between being meticulous and getting the message across clearly.
This course is worth much more than
standard lessons I have taken for years”.

“The name of the game in studying jazz is Demystification.
Turning the magic of improvisation into
something concrete that can be learned one step at a time.
This is Yuval's specialty,
both in the methodological sense and in listening to you and
knowing exactly what needs to be worked on”.
Ofer Yehuda
"Yuval is a brilliant pianist and musician, and also a gifted educator with rare pedagogical insight.
A professional pianist and teacher myself, I took his course and was deeply impressed by the way he builds a solid foundation of rhythm, sound, style, structure, harmony, and ear training.
Yuval presents each concept in an extremely clear, constructive and accessible way, which leads the students to grasp jazz improvisation, regardless of their starting point.
The course is thoughtfully designed, well-paced, and includes superb effective exercises and handouts that are practical across various skill levels.
I often find myself using Yuval's methods in my own teaching."
Renana Gutman, concert pianist.
Faculty, Longy School Of Music, Boston MA

"Yuval is the best teacher for Harmony I know.
He builds with the student the ability to improvise over any harmonic progression in a systematic and organized way.
As opposed to many other teachers, Yuval teaches all the skills that are expected from an improvising player in every situation and not merely "style".
In addition, Yuval's world of references is rich and he can dive into a
Bill Evans' solo with the same seriousness he goes into Bach's fugues,
and he connects them all to the topics of the lesson."
Private Students Say About My Teaching
"Yuval is unique among musicians for having the
sharpest ear one can hope for.
Having played for many dozens of eminent artists, I have hardly met anyone who so scrupulously and incisively pays attention to the smallest of details, and makes the relevance of these details clear.
He is the truest of musicians, and I wholeheartedly recommend his tuition."
Ariel Lanyi, concert pianist.
Prize winner of the Leeds International Piano Competition.
Finalist in the Rubinstein International competition.
Full Scholarship Graduate, M.Mus, B.Mus, Royal Academy of Music, London.
"Yuval is absolutely the best teacher I have worked with.
He is one of those teachers who sends you home with infinite work, and also teaches you how to become a good teacher of yourself.
I highly recommend Yuval for all levels and styles!"
Moshe Elmakias, jazz pianit, NYC.
M.Mus from New England Conservatory, Boston,
B. Mus from Jerusalem Academy for Music and Dance.
"I came to Yuval thinking that I knew a thing or two about piano, and Yuval opened a whole new world for me.
A world of perceiving, of essence, technique, basics, theory, and what not. Yuval is one of the nicest and smartest people I have met, and as a teacher
he changed my entire view and deepened it immensely.
Highly recommended."
